There are many things in life that are inevitable, and in today’s society, feeling of stress is one of them. Although we cannot stop it from happening, we can still influence how often it happens or how much it affects us.
Sure, taking a break to listen to a favorite song or even going for a walk is a perfect solution for some people, but that is not always an option. However, there are other things that you can do, even if you are stuck behind an office desk for hours.

Go to your happy place

That is a phrase that you may have heard a lot. However, although it sounds as a cliché, it is actually a good way to deal with stress.

Having a few pictures of your family and pets at the office, is a good way to take your mind of the daily routine for a moment and find time to relax. If that is not enough, you can add a few pictures of your accomplishments, a place you want to travel to, or anything else that can and will bring a smile on your face. After all, it is all about thinking about happier and less stressful times.

Improve your workplace

Among the many things which people don’t think as a stress relief method, plants are one of them. But tending to them is a good way to relax, and unless you can bring your own pet to your office, they are not a bad substitute.

Music on the other hand, is a very popular method to relax. Though it is true that it can be distracting, you don’t have to go for songs. You can choose something with no lyrics or even simple sounds like white noise or the sound of rain to create a calmer environment.
Last but not least, you can simply remove things instead of adding. The more things you have in your office, the more your brain may find it hard to focus and in turn, start feeling under pressure. Keep it simple and avoid cluttering your workplace, and it may be more than enough for you.

There are many different kinds of food that people say help them fight stress. And although some of them can work, it isn’t always possible to pull out a salad or an ice-cream out of your drawer. What you can do however, is to keep a bar of dark chocolate or a few oranges in there.

Since stress is caused by hormones in your body, snacks which reduce them or make you feel better, are a great addition to your arsenal against stress.

All in all, yes, we can’t stop our minds and bodies from feeling stressed. At least not every single time. But what we can do is make sure it does not affect us as much. Find the things that make you feel better and bring them to your office if you can. The work you have to do and your responsibilities are still going to be there, but you will perform much better if you are calm and focused.
